Rock On had all the required elements of a movie on rock music, you had live performances, the lifestyle of a rock band, the underground practice sessions, the music company producer who always would feel "you can do more" and other of his "All FART and no SHIT" talks. The dream to be the biggest rock band is probably an illusion unless and until its not driven with the same passion and belief which the band possesses, which for some reason is missing from the record label companies in India.
Frankly speaking Farhan might just have started a new chapter in the Indian rock scene. The lyrics of the song werent that great but it gives an immediate liking when you listen to the tracks. Me an avid english rock music fan who hates bollywood music, loved the music so much that I went and picked up the audio CD. And im enjoying it every moment listening to it everyday.
The Indian Rock music scene never actually picked up, though few have attempted, but they have had niche audiences where only people who listen to rock music would have a liking to Indian English rock music. This will always be the factor wherein it will never appeal to the mass audiences. English rock bands from the US, UK, etc. will always have a huge number of fans who would listen to english rock music.
If somehow most of the major Indian bands started writing songs in Hindi, I guess that would be a boost to the Indian rock Scene. Pakistani bands like Strings, Jal, Junoon etc. have written beautiful songs and it appeals to the Indian audience. Music in any form whether its rock, pop, etc, if in hindi would always have major Indian audiences following it. After all Hindi is our national language right!
Rock music in local languages is pretty popular in Japan, Korea, China, etc. since people correlate to the music in their local languages. They have local songs/bands which are much more popular than the stream of international artistes. Therefore I feel its time that Indian Rock bands started to write songs in Hindi with lyrics which have a profound meaning attached to them. I will always be a fan of rock music be it in any language, doesn't make a darn difference if i don't even understand them.
Cheers to the Rock On Team for doing such a great job.
Cheers!
